Things generally begin to slow down around this time at TIFF. Most celebrities come into town the first weekend and then they slowly dwindle during the week. Today I had the opportunity to sit through various interviews including ones with Nicholas Cage and Jay Baruchel. After my class ended I ran with a friend over to the Kill Your Darlings premiere hoping to catch a glimpse of Danielle Radcliffe and Dexter (Michael C. Hall). Unfortunately showing up late doesn’t give you the best spots so the pictures I attempted at are all but a blur. Dane Dehaan who people may recognize from A Place Beyond the Pines ended up being really sweet as he came out a second time to sign autographs and take pictures with fans. Last but not least I got to see Saoirse Ronan, who I’d been waiting for since I found out she would be here for the festival. I actually met her at the exact same location two years ago when she was here for Violet and Daisy. Originally we were scared that she wasn’t going to come over to the side of the street that security puts barricades at, the place where fans are actually supposed to stand although it’s extremely inconvenient. Thankfully, after fans screaming, she did. I had a little problem with my camera, I ended up knocking the setting to focus on aperture without realization and my pictures came out almost completely black. But with a little help from my friend photoshop the photographs are visible, although a little grainy. I actually think it adds character. It’s like they were taken with film rather then a digital camera.
Today was pretty rough. I originally wanted to get some shots of Meryl Streep at her premiere but she fell sick and didn’t attend. The two other people I hoped to see was Mila Kunis and Taylor Swift. The problem was Mila Kunis had two red carpets to be at in little to no time in between. Therefore I thought it would be smart to wait at the back of the theatre because both Mila and Taylor would be in the same place at the same time. Win, right? Not so much. I’ve also learned that Ms. T Swizzle is only friendly and nice to fans when the cameras are rolling. Luckily when following her later in the night because I wanted a photograph with her more than anything, I ran into Abigail Breslin, who I might add really is Little Miss Sunshine. Abigail took pictures with fans as she left the SoHo House last night. I also had the chance to meet Jessica Chastain earlier in the day at the Elgin Theatre, who was very polite taking photographs and signing autographs for fans at the exit.
Today has been the longest day I’ve experienced in a while. I attended the 12pm showing of Can A Song Save Your Life? and fell in love with the film (review to follow). It was the same feeling I had after seeing Silver Linings Playbook last year at the festival. Basically I thought it was absolutely brilliant.
On to the next order of business.
I was lucky enough to be graced with the presence of James Lafferty. I have loved this boy since One Tree Hill began airing in 2003 and wanted nothing more then to get my photograph with Nathan Scott. Back in 2009 I took a trip to Wilmington, North Carolina to visit the set with a best friend of mine. Unfortunately we didn’t get to meet any of the main cast and arrived at TRIC just two minutes after James left set and I was devastated. You can read about the trip here. And apparently Toronto is the best place for a One Tree Hill reunion as Tyler Hilton, who played Chris Keller on the television show was also in town. This was the second time I was able to get a picture with him.
Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto weren’t as fan friendly as I would’ve thought/hoped. I spotted them leaving press meetings and although they looked over they didn’t seem to give anyone their time of day.
Afterwards I made my way over to the Night Moves premiere. Before I grabbed a spot on the red carpet I waited to snap some pictures of Jake Gyllenhaal leaving the Ryerson Theatre after his film Enemy ended. Dakota Fanning took a couple pictures before heading in claiming that she was running late but didn’t even stay for the movie. On top of that, Jesse Eisenberg followed but had no problem with taking pictures and singing autographs for those who asked.
My day started off at the Princess of Wales Theatre where I saw Prisoners featuring Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal. Then in the afternoon I met the very handsome Chris Hemsworth and Paul Giamatti and had the opportunity to see Adam Levine and Keira Knightly at the Can A Song Save Your Life? movie premiere.
Last night I was one of the few lucky individuals who had the opportunity to attend Shawn Desman’s premiere for his movie ALIVE thanks to Ascenta Health. The entire cast which includes Izaak Smith, Melinda Shankar, Kaitlyn Leeb & Bree Wasylenko and obviously Shawn Desman were all in attendance. The director RT Make sure to check it out on Much Music this Tuesday at 7pm.
Today I got to meet the author of The Mortal Instruments and the Infernal Devices, Cassandra Clare. The first instalment of The Mortal Instruments, The City of Bones is currently filming in Toronto. In fact the wrap party is being held tonight with only 3 days until the movie’s set to finish.
I arrived at Indigo at Yorkdale Shopping Centre around 10:40am for a 2:00pm signing. The first two women in line arrived at 7am after driving all the way from Kingston, Ontario. There were also a group of friends in line behind me who drove from Pennsylvania. It was a long day of waiting with Shadowhunters taking over the entire store, not only filling up the space between all the rows of books upstairs but downstairs as well. One women who worked at the store walked around handing out rune tattoos to everyone while others put sticky notes in all of the books that fans wanted to be signed. 1 book from each series was allowed to be personalized but any others would also be signed.
After about a half and hour Q&A with Cassie the book signing started where they took groups of people at a time (approximately 20). Fans were organized by being given a group number. I was 8 but I know it went to at least 23. There was said to have been around 700 people in attendance. Cassandra was incredibly sweet making sure she had time to speak with everyone who waited in line for a few moments before moving on to the next person.
Yesterday was more of a movie day rather then a searching for celebrity one. As you can tell by my previous post I saw Silver Linings Playbook but I did get a quick glance of Bradley Cooper and Chris Tucker (both actors from the same movie) leaving their hotel.
Today I spent about 3 hours in Yorkville when I went out for lunch with my mom. When I was outside one of the hotels I saw someone who looked very familiar step on the driveway for a smoke break with a friend. I quickly recognized him as Chris O’Dowd. He’s officer Rhodes in Bridesmaids for those of you who don’t know. Right before he walked back inside I called his name and he walked over and asked if we wanted pictures. Of course we said “yes!” He was really sweet and his accent is to die for in person. It made me swoon.
Chris O’Dowd is in town for his film The Sapphires.
Review to be posted sometime tomorrow, my encounter’s posted below but for now here are some photographs of the gorgeous Kristen Stewart.
And my picture with the lovely lady! She was really sweet being the first celebrity to come over to the fans to sign autographs. When I asked her for a photo her body guard said no to pictures with her but I ignored him and asked her and she replied saying “of course!”
This is one girl I could talk forever about. Her voice amazes me more and more every time I see her perform. My best friend Arielle and I drove all from Toronto to Buffalo for this concert. I wasn’t able to attend hers the next week because i’d be in Cleveland for a youth group event. There was no way I was missing the chance to see one of my favourite people in the world. We arrived at the venue early and were some of the first people in line with some of our other friends. At one point we decided to run over to Starbucks to get food and on our way back it started to pour and we got absolutely drenched. My shoes were destroyed. Anyway, when we were allowed inside we ran to get front row spots and then went to the merchandise table to make sure we’d be able to meet Kate Voegele at the end of the show. First 50 people who but a t-shirt or her album get a wrist band. Long story short we partied all night long and it was great. It was more then that it was perfect.
“At We Day, youth from across North America join together to celebrate the positive actions they are taking and to build the momentum of the movement of young people making a difference in their communities and around the world. Through We Day, youth learn that it is cool to care.”
I’ve now attended We Day twice. Once with my school and this time as a volunteer on the Booth’s Team. I worked at the merchandise table all day long and unfortunately didn’t get to observe the show. When it finished I went looking for my friend Sarah because she had my sweater and Nina Dobrev walked right by me into a car. I called her name and she waved but her publicist claimed she didn’t have time to take pictures. My friends and I kept moving until I realized that the other stars would be leaving from the same exit if they haven’t already and just then Joe Jonas walked outside. I sprinted to the other side of the car and asked him for a picture. His body guard said no giving the same excuse as Nina’s publicist but Joe took my camera and said that he had enough time to take a picture. Don’t mind his face, he just learned that i’m a Demi Lovato fan. Just kidding!
