Demi Lovato’s Neon Lights tour ft. Fifth Harmony & Cher Lloyd

I apologize for the delay. This has been sitting in my drafts for a while…

On March 26, 2014 I had the opportunity to be a photographer at Demi Lovato’s concert at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario. Besides being an artist whose music I love, this was an incredible experience for me as a photographer. I’ve taken a cheap point-and-shoot camera to shows before where afterwards the low quality of the photos brings me to tears. The week earlier when I was in Columbus, Ohio for the same show I snuck in my Canon EOS 60D but was terrified of getting caught. For the first time I didn’t need to sneak in a camera and I left with beautiful pictures that I can be proud of. For the two openers, Fifth Harmony and Cher Lloyd I was able to shoot in the pit where the lighting is beyond gorgeous. When it came to Demi Lovato we were only allowed to shoot from the sound stage which was a little disappointing but thanks to the 80-400mm lens I had on me I really have no complaints. I am so thankful to Demi’s management for making this possible.

Photographs can be seen on in the “Celebrity” section under 2014.

Disney’s “Frozen”: Movie Review

Disney’s “Frozen” follows the story of not one but two princesses. Elsa (Idina Menzel) is born with the power to create both ice and snow. A beautiful but dangerous gift that she fights to keep hidden from the rest of the world. After nearly killing her sister Anna (Kristen Bell), Elsa isolates herself, spending all of her time trying to find a way to suppress her growing abilities. Her emotions however, find a way to get the best of her triggering the magic that accidentally sets off the Kingdom of Arendelle in an eternal winter. She flees the land in fear of becoming a monster and causing harm to everyone around her. Anna then sets off on a journey to bring her sister back and save the kingdom while teaming up with those she meets on the way –  Kristoff (Jonathan Groff), a rugged man who sells ice for a living (and is not currently working in the best market) alongside Sven his trusty Reindeer and a snowman named Olaf (Josh Gad). Together they battle the elements of the cold in an attempt to bring Arendelle back to it’s warm, summery demeanour.

Some songs on the soundtrack are definitely better than others. Partially because of the second-hand embarrassment, cheesy lines that are thrown in. But hey, it’s a Disney movie. What did you expect? My favourite song from the film is actually played in the credits. It’s Demi Lovato’s version of Let It Go however, you can hear Idina Menzel’s version in the actual movie.

I might be biased as someone who loves almost everything Disney related but I absolutely adored this movie. It’s a great family movie that the kids will enjoy (at any age cause here I am at 19). And go into it with that mindset, that it’s a movie for families and kids and I can guarantee that you’ll love it just as much as I did.

If you would like to know any spoilers from the film please feel free to contact me.

Frozen hits theatres American Thanksgiving Weekend on November 27th 2013.
The soundtrack is already available for pre-order on iTunes here and by purchasing it you can get Demi Lovato’s Let It Go right away.

DEMI Toronto Buyout

Saturday, May 18th marked the date of the DEMI Buyout in Toronto, Canada. The group started out by meeting up in Dundas Square before making their way over to the HMV Superstore where they proceeded to buy Demi Lovato’s brand new fourth studio album. For those who wanted, they could donate their album(s) to Sick Kids. In total 25 albums were donated to the Hospital in Toronto. This way you can support your favourite artist while giving back to the community. Special thanks to Cody Reid for doing both videography and photography at the event. The completed video will be up soon, there have been some technical difficulties. For more information on future Buyouts and/or events related to Demi Lovato in Toronto follow @DemiBuyoutTO. Demi Lovato’s Concert: Mardi Gras at Universal Studios

Call me crazy but I’d rather call it dedicated. I decided that it had been way too long since I last saw Demi Lovato. So myself along with two of my best friends flew all the way from our igloos in Canada to see her perform at Universal Studios in Florida. We literally only went for her, arriving Friday morning and departing Sunday morning.

Saturday morning we arrived at Universal Studios around 9:15am (the park opened at 9am). By that time there was already one line/barricaded area and we were in the second one with pink tickets. My friends and I were the ones playing Demi’s music. I was shocked at how cold it was. Camping out was not fun until I went and bought myself a Harry Potter blanket to cuddle up with on the hard ground. It was great talking to and meeting various other fans all day long.

At around 3pm when we had to go to the Hard Rock Cafe for our meet and greet. Unfortunately it meant missing soundcheck and getting spots for the concert. The VIP I purchased did not come with entry into the park so they didn’t have a special area for all of us meeting Demi to go to afterwards. The meet and greet was done through Golden Tickets who have renamed themselves Adventures in Wonderland. They have terrible customer service and sent and email telling us to show up at 2:45pm and they weren’t there until about 4:15pm. The package came with a Heart Attack poster (which I had stolen) lament and t-shirt. For those unaware meet and greets are very short and rushed. Sometimes security won’t even allow you to hug Demi but I went for it anyway. I mean, I just travelled all the way from Toronto, there was no way I wasn’t! Demi smells like rainbows and butterflies. I swear! I am so so so thankful for having the opportunity to hug her again. I would like to note that it took over 72 hours to receive my photograph from Golden Tickets.

General admission/free concerts are a mess. There was shoving, pushing and fighting from a ton of people, clearly not the fans. It was close to becoming a full on mob scene but once Demi came on stage everyone seemed to chill out. Her vocals impress me more and more every f*cking time I see her. She’s absolutely phenomenal and i’m so lucky to have been apart of the first crowd to ever hear her new single Heart Attack sung live.

Peoples Choice Awards

Tonight was the 39th Annual People’s Choice Awards at Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, California. But they should think about calling the show “If you were nominated and in attendance you won” award show. Every award was pretty obvious if you watched the red carpet in advance and knew who was there. It wasn’t all that much of a shocker.

Thoughts that needed to be said:
– Jennifer Lawrence should’ve walked on stage as Katniss while Alicia Keys peformed Girl On Fire.
– There’s no way Katy Perry won all 4 of her awards.
– Lea Michele shouldn’t be considered a comedic actress.
– Adam Sandler should probably retire, no idea what that little speech he did tonight was…
– They should’ve played the ‘get off the stage’ music for XTina.
– Jennifer Aniston is gorgeous and never ages.
– Brittany Snow looks perfect in her yellow dress.
– Emma Watson is adorable but I was disappointed she didn’t do the red carpet with the rest of her Perks of Being a Wallflower cast.
– Taylor Swift looked terrifying with her eye makeup. It was awkward and made it look like she had two black eyes.

Counting Down: My 5 Favourite Moments/Things To Happen at the PCAs
5. Although said singer wasn’t in attendance and you had to check the online list to know that Demi Lovato won Favourite Celebrity Judge I am more then happy for her. Although I think she was ripped off by Katy Perry in her other two categories.

4. If you don’t like Ellen Degeneres then you’re lying. She’s hilarious and perfect in all ways. Best moment was when she said thanks then walked away before turning around and returning to the podium because she had an award to present but wanted to hear an applause first.

3. It took way too long and it was nearly long enough if you ask me but getting to see Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth. The Hunger Games cast slayed tonight taking in a total of 4 awards for; Favourite Movie, Favorite Movie Franchise, Favorite On Screen Chemistry and Favorite Action Movie. In total the Hunger Games cast racked in 6/7 awards that they were nominated for. Clearly i’m a fan. I went to the Toronto Hunger Games premiere back in March of last year. And for the fandom it’s been a big day! It started with Entertainment Weekly giving us the first stills for the sequel Catching Fire. Catching Fire will hit theatres at the end of this year in November.

2.  Did you see Matt Boner Bomer tonight?! He is literally a sex god. The only thing that would’ve made him even hotter is if he wasn’t wearing a shirt but that’s not appropriate for an award show now is it? I am thankful for his existence and his infectious grin that makes me squeal every time I lay eyes on him. Tonight he presented two awards with Chloe Grace Moretz so not only did I get to stare at him on the red carpet but during that time on stage as well. THANK YOU AWARD SHOW GODS. And i’m thankful for a 5th season of White Collar. Unfortunately the show didn’t win in the category they were nominated.

1. It’s not a surprise how much I admire Jennifer Lawrence so when she won both Favourite Face of Heroism and Favourite Movie Actress for The Hunger Games I was ecstatic! If you don’t believe me you can go look through my tweets. She’s so incredibly talented and humble. I don’t think there was one person in the room tonight who wasn’t happy for her. The best thing about her acceptance speak was the Mean Girls reference she made. It just proves that Jen is just one of us who made it on the outside. And she looked absolutely gorgeous tonight! I look forward to this upcoming award season. I see big things happening for Jennifer as this may be the year she finally gets an Oscar for her role as Tiffany Maxwell in Silver Linings Playbook.

“I wish this was like Mean Girls where I could just break this up and give it to all of you.”

A Dream Day with Demi Lovato

On July 3rd 2012 I went to Demi Lovato’s concert at the Molson Amplitheatre. For those of you who know me this was a BIG deal. Demi Lovato has to be one of my favourite artists in the entire world aside from Kate Voegele, Taylor Swift, Amy Kuney and Avril Lavigne. When I found out the that Toronto was the only place Demi was coming to in Canada I was ecstatic that is until I called my mother and she pointed out to me that I’d already be at camp in Parry Sound. That’s at least 2 hours away from my house which is then another hour away from downtown.  I quickly emailed my camp way in advance and begged to have my day off changed just so I would have the opportunity to attend the show.  When the tickets went on sale I bought a single for $85. I found out that my friend Chelsea (she’s f*cking amazing and you should befriend her) got a single in the same row as me so I knew I wouldn’t be alone either way. I wanted to purchase a meet n’ greet package from Golden Tickets but I didn’t want to waste $375 if I found out I wasn’t able to get the day off since it was the third day of camp. About two weeks before the concert I got a message from my friend Emma who told me that Virgin Radio was selling meet n’ greet passes; all you had to do was donate $100 to Sick Kids Hospital and you’d receive a copy of her third album ‘Unbroken,’ a meet n’ greet pass, a concert ticket and a ticket to her soundcheck. How could I resist? At least if I couldn’t go I was wasting (well donating $100 to charity) not loosing over $300. After buying mine I made sure Chelsea knew about it so she could buy one too! After talking to my bosses at camp I learned I was able to get the day off and leave camp at 11:00am to make sure I’d be at the venue by 3:00pm. We ran into so much traffic and I was so glad we were able to get out an hour earlier then planned. I’m just so thankful everything worked out in general.

The day of the concert came quickly. As much as I was excited for it I didn’t want it to end either. When I first arrived at the venue I saw Emma, Athena and Kristen but they were in the Golden Tickets line. When Chelsea arrived we waited together for Virgin Radio to organize themselves and give us everything we paid for. When we finally received our seat tickets from the Radio Station we learned their seats in the 300s were way worse then our 100s so we were glad we didn’t sell them like we originally planned.

At soundcheck Demi Lovato sang three songs. Although she was sick (with strep throat) I was in awe at how amazing her voice sounded. Ughdlhgsdglksdj take me back, please! After soundcheck was the meet and greet. I was freaking out the entire time I was in line waiting. There was this old lady in front of me getting really pissed off cause I had my phone (when we weren’t supposed to) and I took a picture of Demi’s dressing room. She thought I was going to get everyone kicked out, yeah no. I was the third person to get a picture with Demi and meet her. I gave her a hug and made sure she knew about Letters To Demi which was started back in November 2010. Everything else we talked about remains between the two of us. (;

After the meet n’ greet we had to rip off our bracelets (cause the venue is stupid), made us go outside the gate and get our tickets checked again before we could re-enter. Right after the opener Hot Chelle Rae performed (I’m still upset that they didn’t sing ‘Why Don’t You Love Me’ with Demi) my friend Mira sent me a text to let me know that there were 3 empty seats behind her so we moved up to the fourth row right before Demi came on. I was dying the entire show, literally freaking out. It was definitely the best concert i’ve ever been to in my entire life. A lot of the details are fuzzy because i’m still in shock but I shared what I could remember.

Demi Lovato at New.Music.Live

Two days ago New Music Live posted that Demi Lovato was going to be at the show. AT THE SHOW. I stopped breathing.
‘Oh heck to the yes, y’all! The one and only Ms. Demi Lovato is hitting New.Music.Live. for a FULL HOUR this Thursday, October 13! She’ll be here to chat with our NML hosts and take your audience questions about her new album Unbroken, her new videos and much, much more!’ That was announced on Tuesday. I immediately picked up the phone and started calling, as did my mother and my best friend Arielle. When my phone started to ring I let out the most attractive screech ever, seriously. The entire time that I was leaving the message on the machine with my name, phone number, tickets I needed, age, if I had some form of ID I was praying that I made no mistakes.

Yesterday was the longest ‘waiting game’ day in the entire world. I was sitting in class hoping my phone would ring telling me that I had tickets to see Demi. And waiting. And waiting. And waiting. And waiting. You get the point? I decided to go for a walk and went into a random classroom where students ended up going to chill instead of doing work. The moment I stepped foot inside my phone started to vibrate in my hands. I quickly picked it up and the voice on the other end let me know that I had two tickets to see Demi Lovato on Thursday.

Finally today came. I was going to see Demi f*cking Lovato for the first time ever. The first thing I did when I woke up was throw up in the toilet. I was so excited that I felt sick but I wasn’t going to make myself sick, I was going to see Demi if it was the last thing I did. I made sure to tell my teachers that I was skipping class that day because meeting Demi was much more important. They weren’t impressed.

As we waited in line to go into NML I realized that I hadn’t ate all day. Not the best thing to do especially when your idol had an eating disorder and never ate… I felt like I was being a hypocrite but when I tried to eat I felt like I wold puke. It just wasn’t happening. When we first entered the room I got a crappy spot. I wasn’t able to see the couch where Demi was going to be the entire show. I’d have to watch it from a television screen which I could do from the comfort of my house. Suddenly a  bunch of screaming emerged from the audience. My other best friend Amy put my on her back so I could see Demi. I’m pretty sure tears were rolling down my face at this moment. A really sweet girl in front of my took my album cover of Unbroken and   had it autographed for me. Then the show started so I returned to my spot by the rope. The entire time we were getting frustrated because Demi kept going outside to take pictures and sign autographs but not over to where we were.

It felt like forever but finally Demi came right over to where I was and I got my picture with her. I MET DEMI LOVATO TODAY! No we didn’t get to talk but if you’ve ever been to Much Music you’d know that’s not the atmosphere for having a heart to heart with a celebrity. Despite that it was the best day of my life and no one will change that.
