Demi Lovato’s Neon Lights tour ft. Fifth Harmony & Cher Lloyd

I apologize for the delay. This has been sitting in my drafts for a while…

On March 26, 2014 I had the opportunity to be a photographer at Demi Lovato’s concert at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario. Besides being an artist whose music I love, this was an incredible experience for me as a photographer. I’ve taken a cheap point-and-shoot camera to shows before where afterwards the low quality of the photos brings me to tears. The week earlier when I was in Columbus, Ohio for the same show I snuck in my Canon EOS 60D but was terrified of getting caught. For the first time I didn’t need to sneak in a camera and I left with beautiful pictures that I can be proud of. For the two openers, Fifth Harmony and Cher Lloyd I was able to shoot in the pit where the lighting is beyond gorgeous. When it came to Demi Lovato we were only allowed to shoot from the sound stage which was a little disappointing but thanks to the 80-400mm lens I had on me I really have no complaints. I am so thankful to Demi’s management for making this possible.

Photographs can be seen on www.photosbymelissarae.com in the “Celebrity” section under 2014.

Demi Lovato performing at We Day Toronto

We Day is an educational event and the movement of our time—a movement of young people leading local and global change. We Day is tied to the yearlong We Act program, which offers curricular resources, campaigns and materials to help turn the day’s inspiration into sustained activation.

Demi Lovato, the award-winning singer-songwriter and Free The Children ambassador performed two songs on the We Day Toronto stage; Skyscraper (with special guest Darren Criss) and Neon Lights. In the past Demi Lovato’s participated at We Day Vancouver and We Day Seattle. She’s also donated over $10,000 from selling her old clothing on Ebay, raised money on the Price Is Right, and just recently got back from a volunteer trip to Kenya.

We Day

Every year Free the Children has an event known as We Day across Canada (Toronto, Vancouver, Alberta, Manitoba, Waterloo, Montreal, Halifax, Saskatchewan and Ottawa). I fortunately for the third year in a row got to attend the one in Toronto. The first year I attended with my high school, last year I volunteered as a member on the Booths Team and this year I volunteered with Me to We Style.

We Day is a day to celebrate all of last years initiatives and is the kickoff to the start of another year. If you ever have the chance to attend DO IT. It will be the most inspirational day of your life and if it’s too late for you to attend why not volunteer? Either way it’s a fun-filled day with people just like you who want to make a difference.

You can check out my We Day encounter with Joe Jonas from last year here.

Avril Lavigne’s Concert: The Black Star Tour

I must’ve been about 9 when Avril Lavigne came out on the scene. I remember my older brother introducing me to her music as he handed me a burnt copy of her debut album Let Go. Little did I know that that moment would change me, it was the moment that would turn me into a life long fan. And now here we are.

It’s hard to believe that I’ve been lucky enough to see Avril in concert three times in the past before tonight. The first was in 2003. I was in the third grade and I went with my entire family; mom, dad and brother. The second time in 2004 when I went with my mom, friend Marie and her godmother. By the time Avril came around again I was in eight grade and no longer had to attend concerts with an adult present.

This concert was different then the rest. It’s hard to explain how but it had something to do with growing up with Avril. We’ve come full circle. I passed the age where in Nobody’s Fool she sings “When I was 14 and a little mod brain, it’s amazing what a couple of years can be.” And I even passed the age she was when her career began. It’s been a good 10 years.

I was at camp when tickets went on sale. I remember finding out that Avril was coming back and calling my mom right away who informed me that she already purchased 2 tickets on my behalf, for me and my best friend Amy. Thanks again!

There was one thing from the concert which I will never forget. When Avril was singing I’m With You there was a moment where she stopped singing and all you could hear was the crowd. Every fan in the venue singing her words back to her. It was absolutely beautiful. I tried to video it but there was nothing able to catch the magic.

We Day

“At We Day, youth from across North America join together to celebrate the positive actions they are taking and to build the momentum of the movement of young people making a difference in their communities and around the world. Through We Day, youth learn that it is cool to care.”

I’ve now attended We Day twice. Once with my school and this time as a volunteer on the Booth’s Team. I worked at the merchandise table all day long and unfortunately didn’t get to observe the show. When it finished I went looking for my friend Sarah because she had my sweater and Nina Dobrev walked right by me into a car. I called her name and she waved but her publicist claimed she didn’t have time to take pictures. My friends and I kept moving until I realized that the other stars would be leaving from the same exit if they haven’t already and just then Joe Jonas walked outside. I sprinted to the other side of the car and asked him for a picture. His body guard said no giving the same excuse as Nina’s publicist but Joe took my camera and said that he had enough time to take a picture. Don’t mind his face, he just learned that i’m a Demi Lovato fan. Just kidding!

Taylor Swift’s Concert: Fearless Tour

When Taylor Swift tickets went on sale I wasn’t able to get any before they sold out but about a week before my birthday my parents surprised me with tickets and I couldn’t have been more excited! The seats were in section 120 if you know where that is in the Air Canada Centre and they were closer then I ever could’ve imagined. I have to thank Pepsi and my dad for getting me the tickets! Taylor is beyond phenomenal live and I hope I have the chance to see her again soon or i’ll go into withdrawals.
